Composition Workshop Fall 2020
[ Nov 9 - Dec18 ]

This fall I will be offering my first composition workshop to private students, bringing decades of university teaching and collaboration with some of the leading performers in contemporary music.

Participants will have individual lessons, lectures on repertoire and key issues, shared group lessons, feedback sessions with performers, and a recording of a work developed during the month long session. This inaugural session will focus on writing for saxophone and piano duo, and feature Jeremy Koch (principle saxophone of the Air Force Band) and Molly Orlando (pianist and faculty at George Washington University).

Over six weeks, students will have

  • two private lessons

  • two group lessons, where students share and discuss their works

  • lectures and seminars on contemporary and historical compositional practices

  • feedback sessions with the performers

  • a final 'watch party' where participants' new works are premiered to participants and friends and family
