Listening and Cataloging Chamber Works for Winds

As with the work on string quartets hare are a few interesting works for chamber wind ensembles. Before we engage with them of possible models for composition, let’s do the same ‘cataloging’

  • 𝜿 : a summary of the history

  • T : if the work is 'about' or 'around' something, name it and describe the relationship.

  • ε : your initial take on the 'mood' or affect

  • 𝜏 : interesting technical features that you notice

  • Ⱶ : anything you have uncovered regarding how people fit the work into the big context of 'string quartets', 'classical music', and 'music'.

To the left is an excelent performance of Oiseaux exotiques; here is another (that i can’t embed), and the opening is a wonderful interview with Boulez about the work (as part of your consideration of the 𝜿, T, Ⱶ.
